The main idea of this rig is performance with simplicity. The mast is stepped in a loose socket, like a universal joint, to facilitate adjustability. The rigging wire is set up with Dacron lanyard tails, which are secured to the gunwales, eliminating chain plates.
The hard chined plywood bottom is fairly easy to build with the exception of the forefoot that takes a mighty twist for a fine entry. The original boat was built with Luan underlayment. Because of the declining quality of the stuff, I suggest using marine grade Okume (Gaboon). The forefoot should be two layers of 1/8" laminated.
The frames and gunwales consist of a lot of bits and pieces, all straight forward and fairly easy to build.
Highly flared topsides with reverse sheer makes it a very dry boat with a lot of reserve stability. The roomy cockpit will handle four medium sized people comfortably.
We offer three options for this boat:
A partial kit typically contains the following four items: heat shrink 600D 8.4 oz polyester; Kevlar roving; structural epoxy; adhesive transfer tape (to attach the fabric).
Plans are sold separately and are not included in the Partial Kits. Some people purchase plans long before needing the kit and occasionally the kit is purchased to build custom design.
You can also purchase a partial kit + plans together.
